Welcome to Groundwork

I’m Aaron, a civil engineer who’s spent a decade helping build subway stations and infrastructure in New York City. I love writing about the choices we make in infrastructure, urbanism, and of course the construction behind it all. As my lovely wife likes to point out, these have lost their luster as a party trick, so I’m thrilled to have an interested audience.

Infrastructure is more than roads and rails; it's the backbone of how we move, connect, and build for the future. This is where I unpack those complexities—digging into transportation, transit policy, urban design and how we can make these systems work better for the people who depend on them.

If any of that gets you thinking, you’re in the right place.

Let’s get into it.
